Day 2

Departure from Sibiu.

We’ll take the road to our majestic Făgăraş Mts, also called the Transylvanian Alps.

The Transfagarasan Alpine Road is Romania’s most impressive, best-known road and one of the country’s most popular tourist highlights. The windy road north scene is little short of spectacular at its top: Balea Lake (2.040 m alt.), a glacial lake offering beautiful views of the majestic wide open valley in the Fagaras Mountains.

In 2006, the first "ice hotel" in Eastern Europe was built in the vicinity of the Bâlea glacier lake.

The 90 km of twists and turns run across the tallest sections of the Carpathian Mts, the highest mountains in the country, reaching at its highest point an altitude of 2,034 metres.
Offering dramatic views and breathtakingly beautiful places, a drive on this spectacular road is not something to miss.

We’ll spend the night at Balea Lake, having in front of our eyes the beautiful glacier lake surrounded by the mountains.

Day 3

This day is dedicated to an easy hike, meant to prepare us for the next days challenges.

We will climb to Şaua Doamnei (“Lady’s Saddle”, 2.198 m alt.) and then descend in the valley with the same name.

Along the way we will be rewarded with great views of the Bâlea Lake and the high peaks that surround us: Paltinu (2.401 m alt.), Capra (2.417 m alt.) and more.

The night ends with stories & good fun, warmed by a hot cup of tea.

Day 4

It’s time to feel the real taste of the Făgăraş Mountains !

For today we’ve planned a route that will show us beautiful lakes, high altitude trails and mountains… mountains… as far as the eye can see. High alpine pastures, majestic ridges, fast flowing streams with crystal clear water, trails offering the tourists panoramic views, all the effort is worth for the nice memories to be brought back after the hike.

They don’t name the Făgăraş Mts the Alps of Transylvania for nothing !

We’ll also have the usual interactive theme of the day: “HOW DO WE ORGANIZE OUR ROUTE ?”

At the end of the day, tired but happy, we’ll descend at Podragu hut (2.136 m alt.).

Day 5

Finally the big day has come ! Today we will ascend the trail and reach the Moldoveanu Peak, the highest peak in Romania (2.544 m alt.)

If we’re lucky enough and benefit from good weather below the high peaks we should see the famous blanket of clouds, typical for high mountains.

But that’s not all, folks ! Today you have the chance to be the guides.

We’ll have a friendly chat about how to choose the route, how to walk on the trails and how to recognize the landmarks that we see along the way.

From the Moldoveanu Peak we’ll descend the ridge trail and head to the Viştea mountain refuge (2.310 m alt.), our resting place for the night.

Day 6

This is the day when we say goodbye to the majestic and beautiful Fagaras mountains.

Depending on the weather conditions we’ll discuss the route back and head down to Bâlea Lake.

Transfer to Bucharest airport for a late flight.
