The BBC programme Top Gear did a segment on Transfagarasan and they called it one of the best driving experiences in Europe - Jeremy Clarkson ecstatically named it “the best road in the world” !

An extraordinary 90 Km stretch of tarmac through the highest mountains in Romania - the Fagaras Mts, full of twists, turns and eccentric loops that make it look surreal.

The Transfagarasan Alpine Road is Romania’s most impressive, best-known road and one of the country’s most popular tourist highlights. The windy road north scene is little short of spectacular at its top: Balea Lake, a glacial lake offering beautiful views of the majestic wide open valley in the Fagaras Mountains.

In 2006, the first "ice hotel" in Eastern Europe was built in the vicinity of the Bâlea glacier lake.

The 90 km of twists and turns run across the tallest sections of the Carpathian Mts, the highest mountains in the country, reaching at its highest point an altitude of 2,034 metres. Among the attractions along the road, you can find Bâlea Lake and Bâlea Waterfall.

Offering dramatic views and breathtakingly beautiful places, a drive on this spectacular road is not something to miss.
